Spire Bank (formerly Equatorial Commercial Bank) — Nairobi Branches: Locations, Contacts & Current Status

Important — Spire Bank no longer operates as an independent bank. Spire Bank Limited, majority-owned by Mwalimu National Sacco (the teachers’ savings and credit co-operative), ran into severe financial difficulty and was unable to meet capital requirements. In January 2023, the Central Bank of Kenya approved the acquisition of Spire Bank’s deposit and loan customers by Equity Bank Kenya; the transaction completed on 31 January 2023. Roughly 20,000 depositors and 3,700 loan customers were migrated to Equity Bank, and the Spire Bank mobile app, cards, and standalone accounts stopped working from 1 February 2023. As of 2026, Spire Bank remains a licensed shell entity with the Central Bank of Kenya pending final liquidation approval; it has no operating branches for customer walk-ins today.

If you were a Spire Bank customer: your account was migrated to Equity Bank Kenya Limited. Visit any Equity Bank branch or use Equity’s digital channels (mobile app, *247#, agents) — your old Spire account number and app no longer work.

Spire Bank was originally established as a finance company in 1983 and became a fully-fledged commercial bank in 1995 under the name Equatorial Commercial Bank (ECB). It was rebranded to Spire Bank after Mwalimu Sacco acquired a majority stake in 2015.
