Proper water line installation is fundamental to reliable water delivery throughout your property. Whether you’re building a new home, upgrading aging pipes, or extending water service to new areas, professional installation ensures adequate pressure, prevents leaks, and provides decades of trouble-free service. Bestcare Facilities Management provides expert water line installation services for residential and commercial properties throughout Nairobi, Kiambu, and Kenya.
When Water Line Installation Is Needed
New construction requires complete water line systems from the municipal connection point or private well to all fixtures throughout the property. We design and install comprehensive systems sized appropriately for your property’s demands.
Aging pipe replacement is necessary when old galvanized steel, clay, or early plastic pipes deteriorate. Pipes installed before 1980 may contain materials no longer considered safe or may have reached the end of their service life. Complete replacement prevents failures and ensures water quality.
Property expansions including room additions, ADUs, or new outdoor kitchens require extending water lines to new areas. We integrate new lines seamlessly with existing systems.
Pressure problems due to undersized pipes necessitate upgrading to larger diameter lines capable of delivering adequate flow and pressure to all fixtures simultaneously.
Private well connections require installing water lines from wells to properties, including proper pump integration and pressure tank configuration.
Piping Materials We Install
We install modern piping materials chosen for specific applications. PEX (cross-linked polyethylene) is our most common choice for interior residential water lines. PEX offers flexibility for easy routing, resistance to corrosion and mineral buildup, ability to expand without bursting during freezing, and faster installation than rigid pipe. PEX is cost-effective and highly reliable.
Copper pipe remains popular for its proven longevity, natural antimicrobial properties, and heat resistance. Copper works well for hot water lines and exposed installations where appearance matters. We use Type L copper for interior installations and Type K for underground applications.
CPVC (chlorinated polyvinyl chloride) is a rigid plastic pipe suitable for both hot and cold water. CPVC costs less than copper while providing good performance. It’s particularly useful for DIY-accessible installations since it uses simple glue connections.
HDPE (high-density polyethylene) is ideal for main water lines and underground installations. HDPE’s flexibility, durability, and resistance to corrosion make it excellent for exterior applications. It can be installed using trenchless methods.
PVC is used for cold water applications, particularly outdoor irrigation systems and some cold water mains.
We recommend materials based on your specific application, budget, and long-term performance goals.
Our Water Line Installation Process
Our installation service begins with comprehensive planning. We assess your water needs based on fixture count, simultaneous usage patterns, special requirements like irrigation systems, and future expansion plans.
We design your water line system with proper sizing calculations ensuring adequate flow and pressure, efficient routing minimizing pipe length and fittings, appropriate material selection for each application, and compliance with Kenyan plumbing codes.
For main water line installation, we coordinate with municipal water authorities for connection permits and requirements, excavate trenches at proper depth (minimum 60cm to prevent freezing in high-altitude areas), install pipes with appropriate bedding and backfill, connect to municipal supply or private well, and install main shutoff valves and pressure regulators.
For interior distribution lines, we route pipes through walls, ceilings, and floors using the most efficient paths, install proper supports and hangers preventing sagging, insulate hot water lines to prevent heat loss, install shutoff valves at appropriate locations for maintenance access, and connect all fixtures properly.
We conduct pressure testing before covering any lines, testing at 150% of operating pressure for minimum 2 hours to verify there are no leaks or weaknesses. Only after successful pressure testing do we proceed with finishing work.
We complete installation by flushing all lines to remove debris, checking water quality at all fixtures, adjusting pressure regulators for optimal pressure, and providing system documentation including layout drawings and valve locations.
Proper Sizing
Correct pipe sizing ensures adequate water pressure and flow. Undersized pipes cause low pressure when multiple fixtures operate simultaneously. Oversized pipes waste money without performance benefits and may cause different issues.
We calculate proper sizing based on fixture units (each fixture type has a rated demand), total demand (sum of all fixtures), simultaneous usage (probability of fixtures operating simultaneously), and pressure available at supply point.
Main water lines typically range from 20mm to 40mm diameter. Interior distribution lines range from 12mm for individual fixtures to 20mm for supply branches.
Water Quality Considerations
We can integrate water treatment systems during installation including sediment filters, water softeners for hard water areas, and whole-house filtration systems. Installing these during initial construction is simpler and more cost-effective than retrofitting later.
Commercial Water Line Installation
We provide commercial water line installation for offices, retail centers, hotels, restaurants, hospitals, schools, and industrial facilities. Commercial systems are more complex with larger pipes, higher demands, specialized requirements like grease interceptors or medical gas systems, and strict code compliance. We have extensive experience designing and installing commercial water systems.
